In 2016, to celebrate 10 years of supporting Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and boldly restate its commitment to the LGBTI community, ANZ came out as GAYNZ. Its Oxford Street branch on the parade route was transformed into a flagship GAYNZ branch celebrating LGBTI icons and culture, and the bank became GAYNZ across all social media assets. In a first for an Australian brand, Twitter granted GAYNZ its own rainbow flag emoji that was generated every time #GAYNZ was used, and ANZ’s top executives were even issued with rainbow GAYNZ business cards.
